Beginners Guide to Putting

One of the ways you could improve your golfing skills is to improve your putting talents. It might seem highly unlikely but you can actually improve your skills by doing regular practice and taking care of some minor areas of your game. The moment you know what is expected of you, it is time to go on practicing till you are completely thorough with the skills. Remember, a good putting skill will ultimately translate into a much improved long shot, so taking the time to practice your putting is very important.

You are of course going to need to practice to improve, but the exact skills that you need to practice tend to vary from player to player. To play the best game of golf, you need to focus mainly on three aspects of the game. Of the three, the first is to make sure that the ball makes contact exactly in the center of the club head, for this you need to improve your swing.

Mastering putting is only possible if you can ensure that you have hit the ball right at the center of the club head. If the ball gets in contact by the side of the club head, it is impossible for it to move straight. Irrespective of how much practice you have put in, this is just impossible and would only result in frustration from your sub-optimal performance.

Once you have learnt the skill of hitting the ball by the center of the club, you need to make sure that you hit it in a straight line towards the target. if you want to make the ball move 2 feet from you towards the lake, your aim should not be towards the tree beside it. It may sound incredible, but it is true that not many people can hit the desired target directly during the game. They then stand around and wonder why they are missing their shot.Missing the target by a hair’s breath can adversely affect your putting ability as the ball would go anywhere but where you wanted it to go.

This is mostly ignored by people even when they miss the target by a marginal error.Though most people do not realize this when their hit is slightly off center, but this requires more practice for improvement. It means a missed shot and a hike in your handicap. Only more practice can help you improve in this area. You could improve your putting skills anywhere you like ? Especially when you are trying to improve this particular skill. Thus you need to avoid this if possible.Since going to the driving range is not likely to help you at this stage it is recommended that you avoid it while you are practicing on this skill.

The last skill that you need to work on to improve your putting skills is working to ensure that you are accelerating the club head when you are actually coming into contact with the ball. Slowing down the club just prior to hitting the ball is a common error while playing the game. Loss of impact is the net result of this, which can not allow the ball to reach the target with the desired speed. You can achieve this by some simple efforts on your part.
