Y.E. Yang
Y.E. Yang, the first man to come from behind and beat Tiger Woods in a major when he has led after 54 holes, has won the 2009 PGA Championship. He won by 3 strokes after trailing by 2 to start the day. I surely thought that the 37 year old would buckle by Hole 5, but he didn’t and Tiger was the one
slipping by all his holes. Incredible performance by Yang who had never played with Tiger before and apparently hadn’t even met the President of the PGA. They were introduced right after he won. It was disappointing that Woods didn’t get his 15th major, but in the end he just putted poorly today and that ain’t going to win you any majors.
On another note it was great seeing the first Asian to win a major. I always thought it would be K.J. Choi but it was his fellow countryman from South Korea, Wang. This PGA Championship was only Yong-Eun Yang’s 2nd victory on the PGA Tour. This is the 2nd time Woods has placed 2nd to Yang, when he won the 2006 HSBC Champions Tournament. Pretty impressive for someone who didn’t take up golf till the age of 19.
